TEERTH YATRA.PILGRIMAGE

India is a holy land of sacred pilgrimages . Indians gain knowledge about these places and develops a religious bend of mind since childhood. where ever god's incarnation took place and they did their duties rishi's did tapasya and realised god, or wherever sacred river flows these are places of pilgrimage. people visit these places with their family with devotion.
TARAETHUM SAMARTH ETHI THEERTH.
means - place where our inner self is cleansed is teerth.

to enjoy the fruit of the pilgrimage one should be pure within also.the first step is to purify our inner self then only we can be pure by going on a pilgrimage. our puranas -shiva, skand, padma, mahabharat and ramanyan talks about the importance of theerth yatra.
one such story is in mahabharatha:
after the kurukshetra war, yudhishtira decided to go on pilgrimage with his brothers and wife.shri krishna gave a kamandal. and told them to dip this kamandal also where ever they took bath. on returning yudhishtira gave back the kamandal. shri krishna broke it into pieces and distributed it to all. it was bitter in taste. shri krishna said just by taking bath in theerths one is not purified. he has to keep his inner self pure that is the real teerth yatra.
in skanda puran also rishi agastya talks about manas theerth meaning pure heart .he explained to his wife lobha mudra that -satya, kshama, control of the indriyas, kindness towards the fellow living beings, control of the mind , braveness, discipline, soft spoken , knowledge of all these are teertha . by observing this we can attain mukthi. meaning - if one has a pure heart then only he can have all these qualities, which is equivalent to teertha yatra..
teerth yatra develops national unity also. visiting from north himalayas to south kanyakumari and east ganges to west dwarka one can know about the different religion, language, life style, food practice and climatic changes.
